Stretching from Punta Brava just south of Cancun International Airport to Punta Allen just south of Tulum exists one of the most fascinating destination spots in the world. Tropical beaches, ancient ruins, abundant marine and wildlife abound. The Great Maya Reef is the largest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere.

The Yucatan Peninsula has a Y – shaped border separating three of Mexico states – the State of Campeche in the west, the State of Yucatan in the north (with Merida, its capital, in its center) and the State of Quinana Roo, one of the youngest states of the United States of Mexico – in the east. Chetumal, on the Border of Belize, is the Capital of Quintana Roo. Cancun, on the northeast tip of the state, is the economic engine and the tourist attraction that was built as a tourism project in 1972.We do not know if there exists an exact spot where the Maya Riviera starts but the general consensus is that once you get onto highway 307 along the coast in Quintana Roo you are within the Maya Riviera. This highway runs from Cancun all the way down to Belize. The Maya Riviera ends after Tulum where an area now called the Costa Maya begins.

The Riviera Maya is a 72-mile stretch along the coast line along the Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Riviera Maya begins about 30 minutes south of Cancun’s International airport and starts from Playa del Secreto all the way to Punta Allen, a small fishing village within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
